Safe Administration of Lifesaving Medication (SALM)

A two-day qualification providing skills required to administer lifesaving medication.

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification is designed for those who are employed by a Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered organisation that have a specific responsibility at work to be able to safely administer and monitor the effects of medication within their scope of practice.

Successful learners will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to safely provide lifesaving medication at emergency or life-threatening incidents.

  • Safe - storage, handling, preparation, and accountability of emergency drugs
  • Legal, professional, and organisational frameworks governing medication administration
  • How to assist a clinician or administer permitted medications under appropriate direction
  • Routes of administration, contraindications, side effects, and monitoring requirements
  • Accurate documentation, communication, and handover relating to medication use
