Out of Hospital Adult Immediate Life Support (ILS)

A one-day qualification providing learners with immediate life support skills.

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification is designed for those who are required to manage a deteriorating patient, perform resuscitation attempts and related emergency incidents.

Learners’ existing skills will also be developed so that they work effectively in a team to resuscitate patients in medical or traumatic cardiac arrest, in the out of hospital/prehospital environment..

What You Will Learn

  • How to recognise and manage a deteriorating patient using structured models
  • Adult cardiac arrest management, including CPR, use of an AED and recognition of shockable and non-shockable rhythms
  • Airway management skills, such as adjuncts, suction, and safe oxygen administration
  • Understanding and applying the ILS algorithms for cardiac arrest and peri-arrest emergencies
  • Effective team leadership and communication during resuscitation
  • Management of traumatic cardiac arrest patients and applying the HOTT principles
  • Professional practice, documentation and effective handover
